Glass Galileo Thermometer
Glass Galileo Thermometer – 13 inch
$21.95
This 13-inch tall thermometer is made of sturdy glass with colorful glass bubbles that rise or fall with the temperature. The lowest floating ball is the current temperature. Small engraved metal tags are attached to each floating bubble with temperatures readings. Each bubble has a slightly different weight depending on its size which makes it float or sink at a given temperature. Sturdy glass construction with a classic shape makes this an attractive addition to a desk or bookshelf.

This thermometer includes red, orange, green and blue glass bubbles with engraved metal tags to indicate the temperature. The temperature range for this thermometer is 60-96 Fahrenheit. Also, if all the balls are at the top then the temperature is the lowest ball or lower, OR if all the balls are on the bottom then the temperature is the highest ball or higher.
How it works:
This Thermometer works on the principle of buoyancy and density. Galileo discovered that the density of a liquid changes with the temperature. For most liquids as temperature increases, density decreases. By putting precisely weighted objects in the liquid Galileo was able to observe the objects floating and sinking to different depths at different temperatures. As the density in the liquid increases, the balls begin to float higher. When the density decreases the balls begin to sink to the bottom.
