Intro to Wildlife Tracks Field Excursion ($25) – Saturday February 10th, 10am to 3pm.
February 10 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Annoyed that you’re not seeing more wildlife?? Well, finding wildlife tracks is as close as it gets, and tracks are easier to find than animals! Join Naturalist and Amateur Tracker Nolan Richard in the field to find, discuss, and identify wildlife tracks.
This is an introductory Wildlife Tracking Field class that introduces people to the basics of identifying and interpreting wildlife tracks and signs. When we find evidence of an animal, we’ll ask questions like “what was the animal doing?”, “what animal left that track?”, “How was the animal moving?”, “Is that a left or right, front or hind track?”. There’s so many questions to ponder! There’s no knowing what we will find, but we’ll be sure to discuss whatever we do find!
The location of this hike will be determined in the days leading up to the hike based on current snow conditions. Either way, here’s what you’ll need…
Snowshoes (no xcountry skis)
Snow Boots
Warm layers
Water
Food
No Dogs (They’ll step all over the tracks).
Sign up in advance. Max 10 participants. Meet at Northwest Nature Shop at 10 am on Saturday February 10th to carpool to the start of the excursion.
