Selenite, like all varieties of gypsum, is a very soft mineral. Most often transparent and colorless, Selenite contains no significant amount of selenium. The similarity of the two names stems from the Ancient Greek word for  Moon.

Selenite is said to have a very high energy and yet also be very calming. It is commonly used to clear energy, and to cleanse other crystals.
