November 21, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Ashland has an abundance of beautiful, accessible hiking trails. Join Northwest Nature Shop for a guided walk in the Siskiyou Mountain Park section of the Ashland Watershed to learn more about new and old trails and enjoy the fall setting of the forest. On Sunday, November 21st Ashland hiking guidebook author, Maria Katsantones, will lead a hike on the Mike Uhtoff and Queen of Heart’s trails (3.8 miles; elevation gain/loss ≈ 1400 feet) and then, on the same day for those who want to go further, an extended hike on the Lewis Loops (for an additional 4.6 miles and ≈ 1300 feet elevation gain/loss).
Maria is an enthusiastic hiker, trail runner, and trail steward who has been hiking in Ashland for over 25 years. She is the author of the best-selling guidebook: Hiking in Ashland.
Participation is $10 per person. Participants will meet at 10:00 am at Northwest Nature Shop and then proceed to the trailhead (up a rugged USFS road). Return time will be, approximately, either 1:00 pm or 3:00 pm. To register, call or email Northwest Nature Shop, 541-482-3241.
The first part of the hike involves an approximate 1400 feet of elevation gain/loss as a 3.8 mile out-and-back hike on the Mike Uhtoff Trail (easy-moderate hike) located in the Siskiyou Mountain Park section of the Ashland Watershed.
For hikers interested in an extended hike, an additional hike along the Lewis Loops Trail will follow (an additional 4.6 miles with 1300 feet of elevation gain/loss; moderate-difficult hike). Both hikes will showcase the fall beauty of the Ashland Watershed trail system.
(These outings are not suitable for children under 8, dogs, or hikers recovering from injuries.)
Hikers should dress for cold and possibly wet weather; that is, waterproof, sturdy hiking boots/shoes; warm layers (including a protective outer layer); warm socks, waterproof gloves, a hat; day packs if desired; water bottles and a snack. The hike will cancel (24-48 hours in advance) if heavy rain, snow, or winds are forecasted in the area.
